About Sam Kerr

Sam Kerr's illustrious football career achievements

Sam Kerr is one of the most influential and in-demand footballers in the world. She plays for the Matildas – as captain since 2019 – and is an indomitable striker for Chelsea FC.

Growing up in a sporting family, Kerr fell in love with football from a young age. She took to the professional pitch at the age of 15 when she started for Perth Glory and debuted for the national team in the same year. Kerr has gone on to play at Sydney FC in the A-League Womens, Chicago Red Stars and is now firmly entrenched as a standout star in the Women’s Super League in England.

Kerr credits some of her success to incredible coaches she had as a youngster, which coupled with her personal determination, dedication and desire to succeed, allowed her to thrive on and off the pitch.

Kerr has been nominated for countless sporting and community awards, winning the Julie Dolan medal and PFA Australian Women’s Footballer of the Year multiple times, an ESPY for Best International Womens Soccer Player, was the first, and until 2023 only, Australian player to be named on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or Féminin, coming an impressive second in that year as well as making the FIFA Fifpro World11 team.

Sam is also the first female footballer to feature on the global cover of the wildly popular FIFA video game with her appearance alongside Kylian Mbappé on FIFA 2023 Ultimate Edition, a game that has sold 350 million copies since its launch.

Selected as the 2018 Young Australian of the Year and having been awarded an OAM for her services to football, Kerr now wants to share her journey to help develop the next generation of football stars.
